Why Grad Danielle Bossert Chose FIDM For eLearning

FIDM has been offering pure eLearning courses for more than 15 years. Merit Scholarship recipient Danielle Bossert graduated Magna Cum Laude from our Merchandising & Marketing eLearning Program in 2013 and is now working in visual merchandising at Briggs & Riley Travelware, a manufacturer of high quality luggage and business totes, known for their design innovation and lifetime guarantee. The company was founded in 1993, entered the global marketplace in 2006, and is now selling in more than 27 countries worldwide. We caught up with Danielle to learn more about her eLearning experience at FIDM and her career.

Why did you choose FIDM? I chose FIDM because of their reputation in the fashion industry, because FIDM had a graduate program, and because they offered online learning. I wanted to be able to work and attend school at the same time. FIDM's eLearning allowed me to have a very flexible school schedule. The program prepared me amazingly well. I think if I hadn't attended FIDM my career would not be where it is today.

What was the best part of FIDM’s eLearning program? I loved the online experience. It allows you to be very flexible when you take the time to complete your work and it also provides you a great platform to reach your teachers and answer any questions you might have. However, I think the best part is the presentations. I liked that I still got to give oral presentations and share my work with the other students in my class.

Any advice for current FIDM Students who are going to experience online classes for the first time? Take part in everything as if you were really going to an actual class room so you get the most out of your learning. Don't be afraid to message your teachers and answer any questions you might have. To build relationships with the other students in your class. I reached out on Facebook and still built friendships. Also take advantage of actually going to the different FIDM locations. It really completes your school experience.

Tell us a little about yourself: I was born and raised in Newport Beach, CA. I've always had a love of fashion, from a small age, thanks to my mother and I grew up dancing ballet. I received my undergrad from the University of California, Irvine and shortly after graduating I decided to gear my career more toward fashion. That’s when I decided to apply to FIDM's Professional Designation graduate program. This degree helped me land multiple jobs within the fashion/retail industry, including Skechers and my current position with Briggs & Riley Travelware as a Visual Merchandise Project Coordinator.

Tell us about your position in Visual Merchandising at Briggs & Riley Travelware: My position with Briggs & Riley Travelware is fantastic. Not only is it an excellent company to work for, but I love my position. It’s about 60% travel and 40% office work. I mainly cover the North Pacific, South Pacific, Southwest, and Canada territories where I visit our clients' stores and help them with their visual merchandising of our brand. I am there to build relationships with the stores, offer advice, and help the stores maintain their displays to our standards. It is a very exciting position.

What is your biggest goal right now? Come out on the other end of this quarantine without losing my mind LOL

Anything else you’d like to share? I was one of the nominees for the FIDM’s Outstanding Student Award in Merchandising & Marketing. Even though I did not win, I was super honored to be nominated because I couldn't believe that a teacher chose an eLearning student whom they've never met as their nominee. Also, I was a Merit Scholarship recipient and I graduated Magna Cum Laude.

FIDM has been offering eLearning courses and entire majors online for over 15 years. We’ve been able to build on that foundation to deliver a true FIDM experience for our students currently experiencing an online-only quarter. FIDM's holistic approach focuses on academics, research, student activities, and career planning. Please contact FIDM Admissions to apply.
