Sally Sirkin Lewis: 25 Years of Design

For the past 25 years, Sally Sirkin Lewis has held steadfast to her belief that good design never goes out of fashion.

Through her international interior design practice and the company she founded in 1972, J. Robert Scott, Lewis has designed more than 1,000 textiles and 600 chairs, sofas, ottomans, mirrors, tables, lighting fixtures, desks, beds and accessories, many which have become classics within the interior design vocabulary.

Her early love of couture has inspired an extensive offering of luxurious textiles, including silks and buttery-soft leathers which have been acclaimed for their innovative colors, weaves and textures. Often called the "beige lady," Lewis is known for the broad scope of neutral colors in her textile collections as well as the subtle, sophisticated character of her palette.

A 1989 inductee into the Interior Design Magazine Hall of Fame, Lewis has also been honored with a permanent star in her name at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles. In addition to this design industry recognition, Lewis has been honored for her efforts in the fight against AIDS.

An advocate of contemporary art, she is not only a collector, but has also commissioned great artists of our time to create works especially for her clientele in America and abroad. She has been recognized among her peers as a recipient of several of the most highly esteemed design industry awards.

More than 50 United States design patents have been issued to Lewis for her innovative designs of contemporary furniture. Recently, she co-founded the Foundation for Design Integrity, an organization which fosters industry and consumer awareness for the protection of original design.

In conjunction with this 25 Year Retrospective Exhibition, a student scholarship has been established in Lewis's name by The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, enabling aspiring interior designers to pursue their dreams of a world made better through interiors that speak to the soul and spirit.
