COSTUME EXHIBITION :
HOLLYWOOD 2000

The Hollywood 2000 costume exhibition is an overview of the 20th Century in Films, which runs concurrently with FIDM's 8th Annual Salute to the Art of Motion Picture Costume Design.


Films displayed this year include the Academy Award® nominees for costume design: "Titus" (Milena Canonero), "Sleepy Hollow" (Colleen Atwood), "The Talented Mr. Ripley" (Ann Roth & Gary Jones), "Topsy Turvy" (Lindy Hemming), and "Anna & The King" (Jenny Beavan). Other costumes displayed from 1999 films include "The Winslow Boy", "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me", "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace", "The Emperor & The Assassin", "Mansfield Park", "Stuart Little", "The Cider House Rules", "An Ideal Husband", "Miss Julie", and "Wild, Wild West".

Highlighting the exhibition, which is mounted in the new 10,000 square foot galleries, will also be a nostalgic look back at the past 100 years in film.

Costumes worn by Mary Pickford and Shirley Temple, the chariot from "Ben Hur", costumes from two 20th century Cleopatras -- one featuring Claudette Colbert, the other, Elizabeth Taylor. Fred Astaire's white tie and tails, complete with top hat and shoes will be on display, as will costumes from such great Oscar-winning films as "Funny Lady", Bram Stoker's "Dracula", "Camelot", and "My Fair Lady". Also on display is the largest assemblage of costumes from the 1938 MGM spectacle "Marie Antoinette". -- the last film designed by the great Adrian.

The exhibition opened to the public on Monday, February 21, and closed on Friday, April 28.
