Quilts: California Bound,
California Made 1840-1940

A New Exhibition and Book By the Same Name

Beginning October 1, 2002, "Quilts: California Bound, California Made 1840 – 1940" will open to the public at the FIDM Museum - Galleries in Los Angeles. This collection of 38 extraordinary quilts illustrates the diverse origins of California’s quilted legacy. Also on display will be selected early California clothing.

In conjunction with the exhibition, the FIDM Museum & Library is publishing a comprehensive book by the same name, authored by guest curator Sandi Fox. The richly diverse legacy of California’s quilts is chronicled in words and beautiful images in this collection, which spans a century of quilt making. Fox, a former Collection Curator of Quilts at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, uses contemporary letters, diaries, and historical records to provide accounts of the social, political, and cultural contexts in which the quilts were brought West to California.

Private docent tours by author and curator Sandi Fox are available to groups on Mondays. Please call Mike Black at 213.624.1200 ext. 3275 to arrange. Regular museum hours are from 11:00a.m. - 4:00p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The exhibition is free to the public. For more information call 213.624.1200 ext. 2224 or visit www.fashionmuseum.org.
