Ask Fashion Girl

Dear Fashion Girl,

Dear Fashion Girl:

I bought a strapless dress for a dance and it keeps slipping down. What can I do?

Tania

Dear Tania:

Strapless dresses look great, but they can have embarrassing slippage problems when they react to the pull of gravity! There is, however, an answer to the strapless dress dilemma: Lingerie to the rescue!

What you can do is get a long-line strapless bra. This is a corset-like garment that incorporates a strapless bra and extends about to your waist. It doesn’t lace up but instead has hooks down the back to fasten it.

Safety-pin the inside seams of your dress to the bra, or even sew your bra into the dress. Don’t get a regular strapless bra, because that too might slip down with the weight of your dress and movement of dancing.

You can find long-line strapless bras in the lingerie department of large department stores. They are also sold at Target. Make sure that you get one that is snug enough not to slip down onto your hips, but not so snug that it will become uncomfortable halfway through the night.

Long-line strapless bras are one of a fashionista’s greatest secret weapons when it comes to evening fashion! Welcome to the club.

Sincerely,
