Ask Fashion Girl

Dear Fashion Girl,

Dear Fashion Girl:

I’m going to a party and I don’t have anything to wear! How can I put an outfit together out of clothes that aren’t in fashion, or should I just go buy a dress for a party that is in a week?

Danielle

Dear Danielle:

Hold on before you panic! Clothing dilemmas are rarely as dire as they seem initially. I'm sure you've got something in your closet that would be great for a party. Most of us do, but we don't see our clothes clearly because we're tired of them, or we feel like new clothes will make us into different people. It’s hard to get the same excitement out of an outfit we’ve worn over and over! Keep in mind that the people at the party are probably not tired of your clothes, if they’ve even seen them before, and they are not judging them as harshly as you are.

Another idea is to borrow a dress from a friend or a family member. Often a dress looks completely different on one person than it does on another.

If you have the time and money, you can get something new, but you can always put your energy into reworking your existing wardrobe. It might contain some hidden treasures!

Sincerely,
