Dear Fashion Girl,

Dear Fashion Girl,

I've heard that the accessories you choose for a Prom dress should depend not only on the color of your dress, but also its style or the way it’s cut. My dress is pale pink, strapless, and full length, and it also has silver detailing. What sort of necklace would be best? A drop necklace? A floating one? A string of pearls?

Ashley

Dear Ashley:

All those examples: a drop necklace, a floating one, or a string of pearls, sound like possible good choices for your dress. What it comes down to is personal taste, and the direction that you want your look to take. A single dress can be accessorized in any number of different ways. There really is no one"right"way to accessorize any dress.

Pearls, for instance, would be beautiful and would add a retro note. A drop necklace is simple, elegant, and timeless. You’ll want the chain to be in silver to coordinate with your dress. A floating necklace would lend an updated touch to your gown.

It's really hard to sort out an accessory dilemma in our heads, but it really isn't hard when we confront the problem visually in front of a mirror, especially if we have the advice of a friend. There will probably be one necklace choice that seems right to you, and that will become clear when you put the dress and the various accessory choices together and see what you think of the combinations.

One way to eliminate guesswork is to bring your dress with you when shopping for jewelry, shoes, or other accessories. Good luck with your ensemble and have a great time on the Big Night!

Sincerely, Fashion Girl
