Dear Fashion Girl,
Dear Fashion Girl,
How do I turn a pair of old jeans into a cute skirt?
Megan
Dear Megan,
Here is how to make a skirt out of a pair of pants: Using a seam-ripper tool from a fabric store, carefully open the inner leg seams on a pair of jeans. Next, open the crotch seams partway so that you can sew the front and back crotch areas down with them lying completely flat. Cut the legs off straight at the bottom of the crotch. Hem, or leave rough. For a short skirt, you are done.If you want a longer skirt, don't cut off the legs. Try on your skirt and decide how long you want it to be, then cut the legs to that length, or leave it alone. Then, take a piece of denim or other fabric and cut it to fit the V-shaped opening between the legs. It's best to do this while the garment is lying flat on the floor or on a table. Be sure to leave enough extra length for a hem if you want one. You can leave the edges rough or fold them under to be more neat. Pin the pants edge to the fill-in fabric and make sure everything is lying smooth. Sew by machine or by hand. You're done!
