Ask Fashion Girl
Dear Fashion Girl,
Dear Fashion Girl,
I'm very skinny. I'd like to wear a Prom dress with a bouffant skirt. Is this a good idea for me?\
Sincerely, Kristy
Dear Kristy,
A bouffant skirt is a great, classic Prom look! Some of the bouffant styles happening this year are organza (stiff chiffon), taffeta and tulle ballgown skirts and two-piece and mock two-piece corsetry style dresses with full skirts. One way to camouflage a thin frame is to wear a dress with lots of frou-frou details such as ruffles or other 3-D embellishment -- this is something non-skinny girls can't get away with, yet you've got the fashion-model build for it. The ruffles can be especially helpful in the bodice area to camouflage a small bust.
Another style is the 50's tea-length dress. Tea-length hits mid-calf, and usually has a very full skirt. Visualize something cute and retro, perhaps with a big sash or bow accenting the waist. You can go with a strapless, spaghetti strap or halter style if you find a dress that's a bit busy up top. If you're concerned about your shoulders and arms, wear a filmy wrap gathered around them to add width.
Sincerely, Fashion Girl
