Ask Fashion Girl

Dear Fashion Girl,

Dear Fashion Girl,

I am a normal female. I'm not fat, but I'm rather thick in the bottom and in the chest. I can't really find anything to fit my shape. What do you suggest?

Sincerely, Kasaundra

Dear Kasaundra,

So many women have fit problems -- either in one body part or in several! Those of us who measure anything other than the standard height, weight and body proportions -- and that's an awful lot of us -- all have to find ways to be fashionable when off-the-rack clothes don't fit the bill. This includes everyone who's shorter, taller, thinner, bustier or thicker than the "average"-sized person.

We have several options:

1. We can do some extra shopping until we find things that do fit us, which will happen if we're persistent. 2. We can find a store that caters to women with our proportions: petite, tall, or plus. 3. A great trick: when you do find something that looks good on you, buy it in several colors or fabrics. 4. We can learn to sew and make our own clothes. 5. We can find a good seamstress who can sew for us, or alter existing clothing to fit us.

As you shop, you'll get to know stores and brands of clothes that tend to come in your size or fit. Then you'll want to keep shopping at these stores or for these brands or styles.

Good luck and happy shopping!

Sincerely, Fashion Girl
