Cosmopolitan Student Alliance

International Students Form Exciting Alliance
Students come to FIDM from all over the globe with diverse backgrounds and interests. The common denominator? They have all chosen FIDM as the college that will ultimately prepare them for their future careers.
With varied interests yet similar aims, four such students have taken it upon themselves to establish a group where students can meet, network, and make new friends no matter where they come from – a home away from home for the international set. Kyoung Jin Lee, Tiffany Lee, Eunice Park, and Sheena Park, all students from FIDM’s Orange County campus, are the co-founders of the Cosmopolitan Student Alliance (CSA), an international student group that will hopefully spread to all of the FIDM Campuses in the coming months.
According to Kyoung, an Apparel Manufacturing major, through CSA she has “met many friends from different countries. I also had opportunities to volunteer at various fashion shows and charity events with the girls I met from this club. I even made my best friends. It is a social gathering and a great way to network with students at FIDM.”
Tiffany, a Merchandise Marketing major, says, “Through this club, we are all able to connect with other students locally and internationally. Life is all about meeting people and making connections and this club is a great way to start. Right now, all of us attend FIDM, but who knows where we’ll be five years from now? It’s great to have a chance to meet remarkable people who can help you in the future.” Agreeing with her friend, Sheena, who is also a Merchandise Marketing major and the president of the organization, Tiffany adds, “I met three amazing girls from this organization with the same passion to start something that we strongly believed in. It’s a place for life-long friendships and connections.”
For these students, CSA is an extension of the positive environment that they have already found at FIDM. “Coming from a big university, I love the smaller campus and the intimate atmosphere of the school. Even the LA campus is small compared to a normal four-year university, and I love it like that,” says Eunice, an Apparel Manufacturing major, adding that “the resources available to the students in the library are phenomenal. I feel like two years is hardly enough to appreciate all of it! And I am impressed by the actual real knowledge the instructors have of the industry. Every single one of them has had some kind of career in fashion, and that just provides us students with a great kaleidoscope of knowledge to learn from.”
All exceptional students, these four women are making their time at FIDM count. Of course classes and jobs make life hectic, but the bonds of friendship and the connections they’re making through CSA have proved invaluable to their overall college experience. Eunice concludes that “one thing I’ve learned in the last three years is that I can never predict where I’ll be in the future. It’s just too mysterious.” Mysterious or not, these girls dream big and, as the formation of CSA proves, they know how to make dreams a reality.
