Spontaneous Combustion

The Long Beach Museum of Art Features FIDM Student Work

On May 11, 2002 the Long Beach Museum of Art will debut "Spontaneous Combustion: The Fusion of Art, Design & Fashion," an exhibition featuring the work of 20 past and present FIDM students.

Exploring the relationships between two design disciplines, Fashion and Interior Design, Spontaneous Combustion is a fashion and furniture presentation created by 10 pairs of students in advanced Fashion and Interior Design classes. The students were challenged to use matching home textile fabrics and created companion chairs and clothing. Graphic Design students at FIDM were asked to create an invitation for the exhibition.

The grand opening on May 11, 2002 is a fundraiser evening for the museum, where FIDM alum and famed designer Kevan Hall will make an appearance. The special cocktail reception will also boast a silent auction, featuring a gown from FIDM grad Monique Lhuillier. Tickets for the gala opening are $250 and are available by calling 562.439.2119.

The Long Beach Museum of Art is located at 2300 East Ocean Boulevard in Long Beach. Museum hours are 11am to 5pm, Tuesday through Sunday. Regular admission is $5 for adults and $4 for seniors/students. Children under 12 are free. For more information please call 562.439.2119 or visit www.lbma.org. The exhibition runs from May 11 to June 1, 2002.
