Two students from FIDM’s Digital Media program were finalists in top entertainment industry magazine The Hollywood Reporter’s 2008 Key Art Student Awards.

The magazine's annual student competition calls for entrants to submit a movie poster or a movie trailer, which is then judged by top entertainment industry professionals from the major film studios and creative agencies. Participation in the movie trailer category increased by 50% this year, with FIDM Students competing against college students from all over the United States and as far away as Greece.

For the 2008 competition, contestants were asked to create a movie poster or trailer for any one of the three films 300, Knocked Up, or Dreamgirls. FIDM Student Samantha Young created a trailer for the feature film 300, while FIDM Student Michael Asmus’s trailer was for Dreamgirls.

"It's wonderful to see such emerging talent in our industry," said The Hollywood Reporter’s publisher, Eric Mika, at the awards ceremony, which was held at the FIDM Museum & Galleries in Downtown Los Angeles. "The Hollywood Reporter is dedicated to bringing young professionals into the [entertainment] industry across the globe with events and recognition such as this.”

The annual competition is an excellent opportunity for student work to be seen and evaluated by entertainment industry decision-makers. In the 2007 competition, FIDM Digital Media Student Meme Ellis was awarded First Place in the movie trailer category for her Brokeback Mountain entry. In this year’s competition, FIDM Graphic Design Student Sarah Neyhart won the Publisher’s Award for her poster for Knocked Up.
